I love how despite his persistence to classify himself as a inhumane monster, Damon is the most human. His impulsiveness, his sadness, his pain, dealing with unrequited love, his humor as a defense mechanism; it’s some of the hardest things about being “human” and feeling. Damon is always being drowned in it despite how much he tries to turn it off. He’s got layers, shows his true colors, and he’s imperfect. He’s relatable and tragically realistic. THAT is the reason why I love his character.

#it’s one of the most underrated delena moments. it’s actually painful to watch  #i mean here’s damon; looking all arrogant and self-conscious as usual; challenging her as he always does  #until elena tells him that the woman he had just talked about in front of the whole grill was her birth mother  #you can just see all of his defenses crushing down as he slowly starts to bringing all the pieces together  #he realizes once again that he’s hurt elena. again. that no matter how hard he tries not to  #that damn past he hates will always try to catch up and kill every single piece of him  #and you can just see the guilt. and the remorse. and a sorry look.  #an apology that reaches his eyes but never his mouth.  #and this; damon; is your humanity
